  • Cook time: 10-12 minutes
  • Serves: 12

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour (make your own self raising flour)
  • 30g (1oz) )butter at room temperature
  • ⅓ cup caster sugar
  • ¼ cup sultanas (or other dried fruit of choice)
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup milk

How to Make Sultana Scones

  1. Preheat your oven to 210 degrees Celsius and prepare a baking sheet by greasing with butter or oil.
  2. Sift flour into a mixing bowl.
  3. Chop butter into small pieces and add to flour.
  4. Add sugar and sultanas to the flour mixture.
  5. Make a small depression in the middle of the flour and butter mixture.
  6. In a separate bowl, lightly beat the one egg. Then, add it to the center of your depression.
  7. Slowly pour milk on top of the egg.
  8. Mix all ingredients with a flat knife until a soft dough forms.

  11. Cut the dough into individual scones approximately 5cm in diameter.

Just wanted to thank you for the perfect scone recipe. I've been looking for years to find the right consistency and taste, and this really is it. It takes me right back to morning walks to Duggan's Bakery in Cork, Ireland. Thank you!

Secret Scone Tip:

Don't spread the scones apart when baking. Keep them together so they "push" each other as they rise.
